Materials:
Outdoor climbing structure with various heights and challenges
Spotting mats
Whistles or bells for signaling
Safety Procedures:
Ensure the climbing structure is age-appropriate and well-maintained.
Establish clear rules and expectations for climbing, such as using safeholds only.
Appoint spotters to assist and ensure the safety of climbers.
Use whistles or bells to signal when it's safe to climb and descend.
Supervise children closely at all times.
Warm-up Activity (5 minutes):
Have children walk around the climbing structure, exploring its features.
Encourage them to practice reaching, hanging, and balancing on low portions of the structure.
Climbing Activity (20 minutes):
Divide children into small groups and assign each group to a designated climbing area.
Instruct spotters to stand at strategic locations to provide support and encouragement.
Allow children to explore the structure freely, challenging themselves to reach new heights and conquer obstacles.
Encourage children to cooperate with each other, offering assistance and spotting for their peers.
Cool-down Activity (5 minutes):
Gather children together and have them walk or jog in place to gradually reduce their heart rate.
Lead them through a series of stretches to promote flexibility and prevent muscle soreness.
